About the workshop

Have you taken a workshop already and/or have been baking sourdough loaves and want to increase your variety? In this virtual workshop, you will get to work with more freshly milled local whole grain flour, as well as see how we can use inclusions to make a variety of loaves and shapes. This workshop is for people who have either taken the first “beginner” workshop or are baking already and have been maintaining their own sourdough culture! Cedar Isle Farm, an organic grain farm in Agassiz, has donated grains for this workshop; Jim, owner and farmer of Cedar Isle, will be joining the class briefly at the end.

(Participants must be able to pick up their kit at The Sharing Farm on June 24, between 4:00-7:00 pm.)

About the baker

Fionna Chong is a Red Seal baker who happens to be a sourdough bread geek at heart. She works with organic local grains wherever possible and is always grateful to the farmers who grow the grains and the organisms that help the dough rise. With a background as an engineer, educator, and busy parent, she weaves science and technique with the practicalities of life and the contemplation and restfulness that baking can bring. She is passionate about sharing sourdough breads and actively follows the motto “keep one, give one”.

About The Sharing Farm

The Sharing Farm grows food to feed Richmond families in need. The Farm is run by community members for community members, and is dedicated to providing fresh, healthy, local produce to our less fortunate neighbours. The Sharing Farm operates on a small budget, but thanks to the generosity of our over 1,000 yearly volunteers and the devotion of a small core of part-time staff, The Farm is able to provide thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables every year to community meals throughout the city and the Richmond Food Bank.
