On High Mountain Farm in Salmon Arm, shown here, Axel and Doris Huidberg enjoyed the first haskaps they'd grown in 2012. They like the haskap as a crop because it's tough. "The plant itself is cold hardy to -47C and the blooms are frost tolerant to -8C. It's the first crop to bloom, and one of the first flowers out there, so the first source of food for any bumblebees and other pollinating insects," Axel says.
In Kelowna,, Lana and Ross Nunweiler have been growing haskap berries on their farm, Honeyberry Acres. The bush Ross is kneeling beside is a three-year old planting, photographed in early Spring.
Honeyberry plants take approximately 6 years to reach maturity and full height.
