About the workshop

Interested in making your own sourdough breads at home with simple flour, water, and salt? Come join us at this hands-on virtual workshop for the sourdough novice! We will learn the basics of the sourdough bread making process at home, the tools and set ups that are helpful and even get to make a loaf with fresh milled whole grain flour! A participant kit with local organic flour and a sourdough culture to get you going is included in this workshop.

(Participants must be able to pick up their kit at The Sharing Farm on June 17, between 4:00-7:00 pm.)

About the baker

Fionna Chong is a Red Seal baker who happens to be a sourdough bread geek at heart. She works with organic local grains wherever possible and is always grateful to the farmers who grow the grains and the organisms that help the dough rise. With a background as an engineer, educator, and busy parent, she weaves science and technique with the practicalities of life and the contemplation and restfulness that baking can bring. She is passionate about sharing sourdough breads and actively follows the motto “keep one, give one”.

About The Sharing Farm

The Sharing Farm grows food to feed Richmond families in need. The Farm is run by community members for community members, and is dedicated to providing fresh, healthy, local produce to our less fortunate neighbours. The Sharing Farm operates on a small budget, but thanks to the generosity of our over 1,000 yearly volunteers and the devotion of a small core of part-time staff, The Farm is able to provide thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables every year to community meals throughout the city and the Richmond Food Bank.
