Southlands Tsawwassen Farmers Market
This is the Southlands Tsawwassen Farmers Market’s inaugural year. Organized by the Southlands Grange Centre for Farming & Food, an emerging centre for agricultural education.
Just across from Boundary Bay Regional Park and Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen BC, exists the Southlands, a new type of community intentionally rooted in farming & food. Southlands is a 530 acre site, of which 80% is preserved as a natural habitat and publicly owned farmland.
The remaining land is a walkable community, based on traditional agrarian villages, where local residents are closely connected to the farms that grow their food. The Farmers Market is set in Market Square, a flourishing open-air hub in the Southlands, where agriculture intersects with the community through demonstration gardens, a community orchard and local neighbourhood food businesses and cafes.
Farmers, producers, and artisans offer a bounty of seasonal fruit and vegetables, specialty food products, craft beverages, baked goods, artisanal jewellery, home decor, and more. The market also hosts a collection of food trucks, serving up hot food to enjoy in the grassy amphitheatre or down by Centennial Beach.
When you shop at Southlands Tsawwassen Farmers Market, you are helping to reimagine the local food system as a place of meaningful connection, ecology, and health in a working landscape connected to the built environment and nature. You are also helping to sustain new farmer training and community workshops about gardening, cooking, and connecting with nature.
