Drink from Summer's Cup — Pimm's No.1

The Pimm’s No. 1 Cup was invented between 1823–1840 by James Pimm, the owner of a London oyster bar. He concocted a house cocktail, an elixir of gin, quinine, and a herbal mixture to “aid digestion,” that he named elegantly, if somewhat unimaginatively, the Pimm’s No. 1 Cup. The drink soon became so popular that Pimm began bottling and supplying it to other bars.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: 1 Cocktail
  • 2 orange slices
  • 2 -3 large strawberries, halved
  • 1 sprig fresh mint
  • 2 ounces Pimm's No. 1
  • 5 ounces ginger ale, Sprite or 7-UP
  • 1 slice of cucumber

Instructions

Place the orange slices, strawberries, and mint in a highball glass with ice. Pour in the Pimm’s, followed by the mixer. Add the cucumber slice (if you must), and stir with a long spoon or metal straw. It goes down pretty easy, as you’ll see.
